Marty Taupau
Taupau returned to the starting line-up in Round 9 for 45 points in 49 minutes.
The former New Zealand international has been renowned as a PPM beast in previous years – and 2020 doesn’t look to be any different.
When we take away the injury-affected appearance in Round 5 where he was forced from the field after 8 minutes – Taupau has a respectable season average of 52 points, and a PPM of 1.12.
However, it’s Taupau’s price that has Fantasy coaches interested this week after dropping $167k on his starting price due to his recent injury.
Whilst he’s priced at around a mid-40’s average this week; we’ve seen he is more than capable of producing keeper-like scores and becoming a cut-price keeper for the remainder of the season.
Minutes have been the biggest concern for Taupau owners over the past 18 months, however his PPM has him well placed to compete with the premium forwards if he continues to play around 50 minutes per game.
With a break even of 63 this week – you can certainly wait a week – but the potential suspension for Fonua-Blake may play into a handy score in Round 9 for those ready to make the jump from the likes of JTB.
Roger Tuivasa Sheck
RTS caught our eye with a 50 point performance in Round 7 against the Storm – despite his side suffering a heavy defeat.
The New Zealand international has only mustered a 40 point average thus far this season – resulting in a loss in value of $174k.
However, Fantasy coaches are well aware that when the Warriors are firing, RTS is invariably at the centre of their attack; creating opportunities for his Wingers and Centres or crossing the line himself.
The attacking stats haven’t been there so far this year; but it’s certainly encouraging to see the former Rooster is still averaging over 200 run metres per game.
Since 2016, the 27 year old has only averaged above 50 points a season once. But with that said, we know RTS is more than capable of producing scores worthy of your third WFB spot; and an upset win over the Broncos in Round 8 will have the Warriors motivated to make it two in a row.
With a price of $564k and a BE of 45, we’ll be watching with interest.
Ryan Sutton
A 67 point display against the Dragons caught our eye during Round 8 – and a growing list of injuries in the Raiders pack could see some more handy returns for the Englishman before the seasons out.
With Soliola potentially missing the rest of the season with a horrific nose fracture, as well as Horsbrough and Bateman not expected back for some time – Sutton could be one of the main beneficiaries.
The former Wigan Warrior boasts an impressive PPM this season of 0.89 – continuing to build on his 2019 numbers where he also made the most of his opportunities.
If he can maintain his starting spot over Joe Tapine for an extended run; we can safely expect scores in the mid 40s which could see his price climb in excess of $150k.
The danger for prospective Sutton owners is the job security as we’ve seen Joe Tapine perform in the starting Lock role in the past.
However, if Sutton is named in the 13 on the team sheet ahead of Round 9; a break even of 15, a friendly price-tag of $459k and his handy dual-position-status combine to make him a very tempting prospect.
